Mike Wewerka commented on [UPDATE] Activision may use unfair matchmaking to trick you into buying microtransactions:
Just a heads up about the Activision of the 80's and 90's. This Activision is not the same Activision. The original company went bankrupt and was purchased by an Investor group lead by Bobby Kotick. The investor group fixed certain aspects and rearranged the company and brought it out of bankruptcy, at which point the company, then known as Mediagenic, changed its corporate name to Activision and is the company we now know. So in essence, it's not a games company, it's an Investor Group that owns game companies, thus, you really shouldn't be surprised by their actions. They aren't gamers at the helm.
